What's in a name?
Butik means store in Danish (and Swedish and Norwegian). With roots in Denmark and a love for Scandinavian design, we couldn't think of a better name.
The backstory
In 1967, a young woman moved from Copenhagen to New York City. One day she wandered into The Different Drummer - a hip NYC store - where she met one of the founders. They fell in love and eventually moved upstate where they raised cattle, bred horses and opened a general store. They got married and had a daughter.
Later they moved to Copenhagen and soon started to bring Scandinavian antiques to NYC. With stores in Soho and the UES, Evergreen Antiques soon became known as a prominent dealer of Scandinavian antiques. While the physical storefronts are now closed, the Evergreen Antiques legacy is carried forward by long-time Evergreen Gallery Director, Laurence Fox. Explore the selection of fine antiques and design online or visit the showroom at NYDC.
Growing up in Denmark and New York, surrounded by Scandinavian antiques, mid century and modern design, the daughter developed a love for blending old with new. And following a career in marketing, she launched BUTIK modern general in 2024.
